Russia says plans to retaliate against US owned media in Moscow
The government of Russia in a tit-for-tat response to U.S. government’s pressure on Russian-government owned media operating in the U.S has said that it has plans to pay America in it own coins.
That much was revealed by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova in an interview on Russian television.
“I think that our patience that is nearly run out will take some legal shape. I don’t rule out it will be done next week,” she said in the interview according to the state-run news wire TASS. “As of today, there is understanding that a practical phase of these response measures (in respect of US media in Russia over demands the RT broadcaster register itself as a foreign agent in the US) will begin next week.”
Last week, Russia was also involved in a diplomatic back-and-forth with Canada over the death of Sergei Magnitsky in 2009 while he was in prison after alleging state tax fraud.
Russian officials say retaliatory measures are underway after Canada imposed sanctions on 30 Russian officials describing the move as “senseless and reprehensible”.
According to spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission, Kirill Kalinin, in Ottawa, retaliatory actions against Canadians had already been set in motion.
