NASARAWA: One dead after herdsmen and farmers clash
A free-for-all between two groups- farmers and Fulani herdsmen in the Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, has left a 28-year-old man identified as Hassan Papalolo dead.
Confirming his death, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, the Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa who also informed that three other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, revealed that Papalolo was stabbed to death when he and other youths invaded an assembly of Fulani herdsmen.
The PPRO said Papalolo was killed in the face-off over the attack on a farmer, Yunusa Makeri, by suspected herdsmen.
Kennedy said; “The deceased was killed in Awe market during a skirmish between some youths and Fulani herdsmen immediately after the injured farmer, Yunusa Makeri, and two herders were brought to the general hospital with machete wounds.”
He added that calm has been restored to the area as the command had already deployed more personnel in crisis zones in order to maintain law and order in the state.
