Court orders Nigeria Police to pay Peace Corps N12.5m, and unseal its office


A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the Nigeria Police to pay the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) N12.5 million for violation of their human rights.

The ruling was sequel to the N2 billion Human Rights Suit instituted against the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and four others before Justice Gabriel Kolawole.

The judge further gave a 7-day ultimatum for the National Headquarters of the Corps located at No 57 Iya Abubakar Crescent, off Alex Ekwueme way, opposite Jabi Lake, Jabi, Abuja, be unsealed.


Following their arrest on February 28, 2017, the National Commandant of PCN, Amb (Dr.) Dickson Akoh and 49 other officers of the corps had dragged the IGP, NPF and the four others to court.

Their lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN ), had prayed for redress over his clients’ unlawful arrest, detention and brutality.
