ASSAULT CASE: South African court overturns Grace Mugabe’s immunity
South African model Gabriella Engels, the woman who was whipped with an electric cord by Grace Mugabe after she was found hanging out with the sons of the former first lady of Zimbabwe, has won a court case against her assaulter.
A South African court has overturned a decision by the government to grant Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity after Engels filed a court application challenging the government’s decision last August.
Grace Mugabe had denied assaulting Engels with an electric cable, saying an “intoxicated and unhinged” Engels had attacked her with a knife.
However, South African advocacy group Afriforum, which represented Engels, dismissed the allegations as lies.
Recall that Grace Mugabe immediately returned to Zimbabwe after she was granted diplomatic immunity following the incident, allowing her to evade prosecution for assault.
