KENYA: Divisions run deeper as Odinga describes election as a “sham”
Two days after President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of the last presidential poll rerun after garnering 98% in a one-way election, divisions have continued to run deep in the east African country.
Tension is already on the high after opposition leader Raila Odinga rejected the outcome of the elections which he described as a sham but however did not mention if the outcome of the polls will be contested in court.
“This election must not stand …. It will make a complete mockery of elections and might well be the end of the ballot as a means of instituting government in Kenya. It will completely destroy public confidence in the vote,” he said.

Moments after the election, Kenyatta during his victory speech noted that he expected his victory to be contested in the court.
“My victory today is likely to be subjected to a constitutional test through the courts. And as I have demonstrated repeatedly, I will submit to this constitutional path no matter its outcomes,” Kenyatta, the son of the country’s founding father, said.
Ever since Kenyatta was declared winner of August elections, about 50 people have been declared dead as Kenya has been dogged with political unrest which has also taken its toll on it economy.
