PDP chairmanship: Daniel’s camp reacts to South-west leaders’ shortlist of 3 aspirants

The camp of the former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, has reacted to the shortlist of three aspirants for position of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The South-west members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) picked only three names from the eight contenders vying for the seat.

They dropped Oyo State ex-governor, Senator Rashid Ladoja; Ogun State ex-governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; ex-national secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo; Lagos State former governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje and Akin-Deko Akintayo from Ondo State.

The caucus, however, selected former minister of Sports and Special Duties, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja; former National Vice and Deputy Chairman of the Party, Chief Olabode George; and Former Education Minister Prof. Tunde Adeniran.
The decision is contained in a document dated November 3, 2017 and signed by former deputy national chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun on behalf of other members of South-west caucus.

Reacting, Gbenga Daniel Campaign Organisation dismissed the purported endorsement of some candidates.

A statement signed by its media consultant, Steve Oliyide, said the document “can best be described as the personal opinion of the writer and it’s clearly not well thought out, if at all such a document is authenticated.”

“The PDP is still smarting from a disastrous electoral outing in the last two and a half years.

“Our party is just recovering from acts of impunity and unilateral actions like this; and never again do we pray for such as we move on to repackage the party.”

He added that Daniel is “currently on a nationwide tour of all the 36 states chapters of our party consulting with leaders and potential delegates, preaching the gospel of internal democracy and retuning the party to the people at the grassroots.”

Oliyide insisted that the former governor “remains firmly in the race and he is probably the aspirant to beat in this race.”
