Trump warns of major conflict with North Korea, but prefers diplomatic solution
Controversial US President Donald Trump has warned that a major conflict with North Korea over its missile activities is possible but noted that he would like to see a diplomatic solution to the standoff.
“There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely,” Trump told Reuters in an Oval Office interview on Thursday.
Nonetheless, Trump said he wanted to peacefully resolve a crisis that has bedeviled multiple US presidents, a path that he and his administration are emphasising by preparing a variety of new economic sanctions while not taking the military option off the table.
Trump who opines that North Korea was his biggest global challenge said; “We’d love to solve things diplomatically but it’s very difficult”.
The comments of Trump is coming after South Korea and the United States of America both decided on “swift punitive measures” against North Korea.
According to US officials, more tougher sanctions against North Korea could include an oil embargo, banning of the North’s airline, intercepting cargo ships and punishing Chinese banks and other foreign firms doing business with Pyongyang.
