APC dismisses PDP’s allegation that 50 of its members marked for arrest, calls it rumour

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the allegation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was implementing a politically motivated strategy of neutralizing the main opposition party through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling it a ‘time-worn strategy’ to preempt imminent developments.

Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the APC, said this on Thursday while reacting to a statement of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP).

On Wednesday, Dayo Adeyeye, PDP spokesman, had alleged that there was a plan by the APC-led government to detain 50 of its members before the end of the year in order to weaken the party against the 2019 general elections.

But Abdullahi described Adeyeye’s allegation as a mere ploy by the opposition party to pre-empt the course of the cases their member have with anti-corruption agencies.

He advised that if anyone had an issue with the anti-graft agencies, they should settle it rather than politicise it.

“I don’t know who is raising these allegations, you should ask the person to show you a list of the people – you see, it’s a time-worn strategy, you pre-empt,” Abdullahi said.

“Some couple of former governors are being invited by the EFCC for questioning on their financial conduct, one way to pre-empt all that is to say that there is a list, a way to muscle the opposition.

“Like I told some of your colleagues who called me yesterday to find out what the party’s reaction is, we are a political party, we don’t arrest people, so if anybody has issues with people who have the power of arresting or investigation, they should go and deal with it. They shouldn’t politicise it.

“Our business is that of winning election, we are political party and winning souls to the party. We don’t arrest people.”
