Derailed train, multiple accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway leave 9 dead
No less than nine persons on Thursday lost their lives in Lagos following a train accident in Agege area and multiple crashes along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In the Agege incident, a train rammed into a trailer on the railway line along Fagba area leaving four persons hanging on the train reportedly died while several others sustained varying injuries.
The accident also reportedly left many vehicles and properties destroyed.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident also happened early Thursday morning and was a multiple accident at Kara Bridge after Berger.
The accident left at least five persons dead and 19 others seriously injured.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Hyginus Omeje, said that three of the victims died on the spot while two later died in the hospital.
Omeje, who said that the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained, gave the number of persons involved in the accident as 53, 40 men and 13 women.
Those who were injured he said, have been taken to the nearest hospital with the help of Lagos State Emergency Management.
