Le Pen, Macron set to slug it out in final round of French Presidential votes
After the conclusion of a nail-biting first round of the French presidential votes, which saw 11 candidates vying for France’s top job, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen are both set to slug it out in the second and final round of the presidential race.
Macron, a former minister and leader of the centrist En Marche! Party and Le Pen, president of the far-right National Front will go head-to-head in the race to become the next president of France in a contest many see as too close to call.
The pair emerged after first round of voting which saw Macron – hailed for months as the favourite to become France’s next president – amassing 24 per cent votes and Le Pen, notching given 22 per cent votes to move to the second and final round which will be staged on the 7th of May.
Le Pen has promised to review the country’s ties with the European Union and raised the prospect of leaving the bloc while Macron, on the other hand, is an unashamed supporter of the EU, a standpoint likely to cost him votes on both the Eurosceptic left and right.
