OSOGBO: 19-yr-old, 3 others to be hanged for stealing motorcycle

A 19-year-old boy identified as Samuel Job, is to die by hanging alongside three others namely Joseph Moses, aged 24, Gideon Ode, aged 25, and Daniel Abraham, aged 24, on the orders of Justice Olubunmi Ayoola of an Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo.

The convicts were sentenced to death for conspiracy and armed robbery after Justice Ayoola found them guilty of the charges leveled against them ordering that they should be hanged by the neck until they are dead.

According to Mrs. Idiat Abdulrahman, the prosecutor, the convicts, armed with knives and other weapons conspired to rob one Abubakar Rauf of his motorcycle with number plate, BDG 896 QB on October 14, 2013, along Kajola Way in Osogbo.

The prosecutor told the court that the convicts severely injured the motorcyclist before forcefully dispossessing him of the motorcycle and fled the scene of the incident.

“The offences are contrary to Section 6 (b) and punishable under Section 1(1)(2)(a). The offences are also contrary to Section 1(1)(2)(a), and punishable under Section 1 (1)(2)(a) of the Robbery and Fire Arm (Special Provision) Cap R11, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004,” the prosecutor said.

After the prosecutors address and further cross examination, Justice Ayoola, however held that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt, found the four persons guilty of the charges preferred against them and sentenced them to death by hanging.
