IKOYIGATE: Osinbajo panel summons NIA DG’s aides, banks for questioning
The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led presidential committee investigating the Director-General (DG) of National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ambassador Ayodele Oke, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) David Babachir Lawal, is said to have summoned aides to the NIA boss for questioning.
The aides are expected to appear before the panel this Monday apparently to tell what they know about the N13billion the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered at an apartment in Ikoyi, which their boss is laying claim to.
It was however learnt that the panel has not yet officially summoned Oke but is expected to do so before the end of the week.
In a related development, Osinbajo’s panel is also said to have invited some commercial banks over the N220million grass-cutting contract in Yobe State, which SGF Lawal allegedly corruptly handled.
It was gathered that the panel wants to to establish whether or not the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released the cash directly or via a third party to the NIA boss as being alleged.
Recall that CBN spokesman, Isaac Okoroafor, recently stated that the CBN does not release fresh mint notes to individuals but to commercial banks.
The panel specifically also wants to understand reason for the rapid transfer of over N200million within a couple of weeks from the contractor to a firm, Rholavision Technologies Limited.
Osinbajo’s panel was constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate allegations against the two top government officials.
The committee has as members, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Moguno.
