Osinbajo panel writes Senate, demands interim reports indicting SGF

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo panel set up to investigate alleged corruption involving the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has asked Senate ad hoc committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East to provide it with documents on the issue.

The committee had in its report, alleged that the SGF did not follow due process and that he violated rules of award of contracts in handling the Presidential Initiatives on North East (PINE).

The chairman of the Senate ad hoc committee, Senator Shehu Sani, disclosed the receipt of a letter on the issue from Osinbajo panel when he spoke to interview to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said, “The Presidential Committee set up to look into allegations of due process violation in award of contracts under Presidential Initiatives on North-East (PINE) has written to us to make available report our findings.

“I confirm that we got the letter and we will provide the documents to the committee,’’ he said.

Sani said that Osinbajo in the letter dated April 21, informed them that his committee required documents from the Senate for appropriate consideration.

Sani further revealed that his committee has again written Lawal and demanded that he appear before it on April 27 by 10:00am.

Sani-led committee on March 15 for the second time asked Lawal to appear before it, but the SGF in a letter dated March 22, asked for a deferment of the meeting.

The committee had in its interim report indicted Lawal in the award of contracts under the PINE.

Among other things, the committee claimed that Rholavision Engineering Limited, a company in which Lawal was allegedly a director, was awarded consultancy contract.
