Niger PDP gov aspirant distances self from N2bn discovered by EFCC

A former deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 governorship election in Niger State, Alhaji Liman Kantigi, has distanced himself from the N2 billion the ERCC said it uncovered in a bank account.

The anti-graft agency had revealed recently, that it uncovered about N4billion in two bank accounts containing N2billion each believed to be the proceeds of crime.

The agency had linked the ownership of the money to Kantigi who is also a former commissioner and a one time local government chairman in Niger State.

He was also alleged to be on the run after the discovery of the monies, a claim he said is untrue, as his lawyers are in touch with the EFCC over the matter.

However, Kantigi in a statement, said he is not aware of the said account traced to a company called Liman and companies, neither is he a director nor a stakeholder in the firm.

“For God sake, the media ought to have confirmed from the banks if truly my names are there as their customer?

“I am not a director of such companies or shareholder,” Kantigi said in the statement.

He lamented, that some people have decided to use the media to smear his character as a businessman and politician.

According to him: “I acknowledge the fact the EFCC has the constitutional right to investigate anybody they suspect.

“It is however not true that I have been evading the commission. My lawyers are in touch with the EFCC and the commission is aware of this. So, it is not true that I am evading the commission.

“I want to categorically state that the claim that another N2 billion in a account reportedly linked to me is untrue and figment of some people’s imagination who want to use the media to drag my name to the mud.”

He went on: “I was chairman of my local government with outstanding performances and a commissioner for seven months.

“How could I have siphoned such amount and pushed to companies as an individual from the government agency as claimed by the media?”

Kantigi urged the media to confirm from the banks and fault him if he was telling lies, adding the reports were being orchestrated by people who would want to spoil his name and associate him with anything bad by all means
