Ex-Gov Aliyu, Nasko to remain in prison till May 3
A former governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu, and his erstwhile Chief of staff, Umar Nasko were Tuesday ordered to be remanded at the Minna Medium Prisons till May 3rd, 2017.
The order was handed down by Justice Aliyu Maiyaki, of the Minna High Court when the duo was arraigned before the court on a six count charge pertaining to fraud to the tune of about N3 billion.
Aliyu and Nasko, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2015 election, were arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission led by the Commission (EFCC).
Ninety five count charges were earlier levelled against them before it was reduced to six by the EFCC, which include dishonestly converting to personal use money belonging to Niger state.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them, and Justice Maiyaki fixed May 3, 2017 to rule on their bail application.
According to the presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Mayaki, the case is to be opened on June 12, 2017 and to be held day by day till June 16.
