Osinbajo committee grills SGF Lawal
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, who was suspended on alleged corruption activities, was on Tuesday quizzed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led presidential committee.
The committee which was set up by President Muhammadu Buhari last week, has the mandate to investigate Lawal and the suspended director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The panel is probing allegations of violations of law and due process leveled against Lawal in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE) and the discovery of about N13billion discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Ikoyi, Lagos, which Oke claims belongs to NIA.
Lawal who appeared before the committee at about 1:05pm was quizzed for several hours.
While Oke had appeared last week Wednesday and on Monday April 24, the Tuesday appearance of the SGF, was the first time he was invited for the close-door interrogation.
The panel had explained that it opted for the probe to be a secret one to allow for full disclosure.
