PDP woes linger as Sheriff storms out of Jonathan’s peace meeting
The hope of peace returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by political means may have been deferred again as the national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Thursday stormed out of the peace meeting called by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
The meeting which ended in a stalemate following a heated argument involving Sheriff, the party’s Governors Forum chairman and Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose , his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike and the National Assembly caucus.
While Senator Sheriff had maintained he would continue as PDP chairman till after the party’s convention, the two governors and the National Assembly caucus refused and insisted he must step down to allow for a neutral person to lead the party to the convention.
Sheriff, who insisted that he must be recognised as the party’s chairman for the meeting to progress, later walked out of the meeting with his deputy, Cairo Ojougboh, following the ensuing argument.
