Patience Jonathan withdraws money from unfrozen bank account (Updated)
The wife of erstwhile president, Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, may have made a withdrawal from her formerly frozen account with the Skye Bank, which was recently unfrozen following a court judgement in her favour, it has been learnt.
This was as the former First Lady was sighted at the Maitama, Abuja branch of the bank accompanied by some of her aides.
Although Mrs Jonathan who was at the bank until 4:05pm refused to disclose to newsmen when accosted why she was at the bank, a source claimed she came in respect to her $5.9million recently unfrozen by a court order.
While the source revealed she met an executive director of the bank and did withdraw some cash, it failed to disclose how much she must have withdrawn.
An aide of Mrs Jonathan who did not give his name, however hinted to newsmen that “everything was okay”
It was later gathered however that the former First Lady was denied access to the account based on a stay of execution reportedly filed by the EFCC against the judgement unfreezing the account.
Sources at the bank revealed that Mrs Jonathan who met with an executive director of the bank during her visit was informed of the latest development, and that the anti-graft agency had equally filed an appeal against the ruling unfreezing the account.
A Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun last week Thursday set aside the “No-debit order” placed on her account following an application by the EFCC, who claimed the money found in it was proceed of crime.
