Kidnappers of ex-SGF, Falae bag life imprisonment
Seven suspects arrested in connection with the kidnap of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Chief Olu Falae have all been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure.
The convicts who will now spend the rest of their lives in prison were sentenced by Justice Williams Rotimi Olamide two years after abducting Chief Falae from his farm in Ilado in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.
The suspects including Abubakar Auta, Bello Jannu, Umaru Ibarahim, Masahudu Muhammed and Idris Lawal, Abdulkadir Umar and Babawuro Kato were arraigned on five count charges bordering on counselling with one another for the purpose of kidnapping and abducting, aiding and abetting, kidnapping, conspiracy and armed robbery.
Reading the charges slammed on the convicts, the Director of Public Prosecution Mrs Sola Adeyemi-Tuki said: “That you, Abubakar Auta, Bello Jannu, Umaru Ibarahim, Masahudu Muhammed, Idris Lawal and Abdulkadir Umar and Babawuro Kato others now at large, on or about Monday 21st September, 2015 at Kajola/Eyinala Community in Akure Judicial Division did give information for the purpose of kidnapping and abducting Chief Samuel Oluyemi Falae.”
Justice Williams Olamide, who passed the verdict, found the convicts, who were mainly Fulani herdsmen, guilty of conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to the laws of the state.
