Adamawa threatens to dump APC unless…
Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State has warned that he, and the state may be forced to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) and join the opposition.
Governor Bindow spoke while clearly angry with the way and manner federal appointments and projects concerning his state are being handled.
He called on the leadership of APC to change its ways in respect to how it treats the state in order not to make them abandon the party out of frustration .
This stand was expressed by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Abdulrahman Jimeta, when he spoke to a team from the APC national secretariat that came to the state to conduct the north-east mini convention of the party.
The governor listened attentively while his Chief of Staff addressed the APC team led by Senator Abdulkadir Jajere, who was in Yola to inform the governor on arrangements for filling vacant party positions in the zone created by appointments in Adamawa.
Jimeta told the APC team, “We here are loyal, but tell the leadership of the party that there is limit to loyalty and that party business is optional. In fact, even religion, you have the right to change it because of pressure.
“So, tell them we are loyal, but there is limit to that, especially if they are not recognising us, since we are the army of the party that is supposed to enjoy the fruits of the party; or out of frustration we join the opposition enemy party.”
Jimeta, who wondered why Adamawa should be treated as if it is an opposition party, argued that several appointments have been made from the state without the knowledge of the state government and that many of the appointees were people they do not even know.
“Unfortunately, there is no difference between an opposition state and APC-led state like Adamawa because even appointments at the federal, we are not consulted.
“Some of them, we don’t know them neither were we consulted before their appointments as indigenes of Adamawa State. Even some of the federal projects that the state was supposed to enjoy are being hijacked by some people in Abuja.
“Even our own rights that we are supposed to get through some agencies like UBEC (Universal Basic Education Commission) and MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) were hijacked and we contacted them, we were told that somebody somewhere has collected the money and is doing the contract somewhere,” he said.
Governor Bindow, when he addressed the team, went in a different tone from his aide, promising his ever readiness to co-operate with the team in the discharge of its mission in the state.
He also praised APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun’s leadership method and that his government’s loyalty to the party remains intact.
