Jonathan, Shagari, IBB absent as Buhari presides over Council of State meeting

Former presidents Goodluck Jonathan, and Shehu Shagari, as well as former military head of state, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), are absent in a meeting of Heads of State holding at the Presidential Villa, Abuja and presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In attendance at the meeting whose members are all living past presidents and heads of government, are Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), and General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.).

The meeting started at 11:05am and has Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Bukola Saraki also in attendance.

Others who are in attendance at the meeting are former Chief Justices of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mohammed Uwais, Idris Kutigi, and Aloma Muktar; governors of Sokoto, Delta, Adamawa, Imo, Benue, Lagos, Nasarawa, Abia, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kebbi, Plateau, Kano, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Ekiti, Zamfara, Ogun, Niger and Ebonyi States.

Before proceeding, the meeting observeda  one-minute silence in honour of the late former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapher.

Though details of the meeting are not yet known, it is however believed that the gathering will not be unconnected with the heightened insecurity situation across the country and killings by suspected Fulani Herdsmen in different states.
