Denied access to Kano, Kwankwaso takes presidential campaign to Anambra

Former governor of Kano State and Senator representing Kano Central senatorial district at the Senate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Thursday visited Anambra State to intimate his followers of his 2019 presidential aspiration.

Kwankwaso’s visit is coming after he was advised by the Nigerian Police against visiting Kano State, possibly to take the same message he took Anambra State to the people he governed for eight years as governor.

During the visit, Kwankwaso, whose rift with his predecessor, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was on Wednesday described as irredeemable by the incumbent Kano State leader, met with the leadership of his group, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, and the Hausa community in Anambra State.

Addressing his audience, Kwankwaso explained that wanton killings in Nigeria and hunger ravaging the country were some the reasons he wants to become the next president. He urged them to support the aspiration.

He said, “I am in this contest because I want to restore the lost glory of the country. I have come to see the people of the state and thank them for their support to me. The South-East region is important in this journey because we cannot do without them.

“Election is not a do-or- die and my successor, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who is opposing my ambition, should have a rethink and join me to better the welfare of Nigerians.

“The only hurdle before us is the primary election. I assure you, if I am able to win the primaries, winning the main election will not be difficult because I know I will win.”

The senator who appreciated the Hausa community for turning out en-masse to show support for him, described the recent killings in the country as unfortunate and called on the Federal Government to show more concern towards the governed.

In his response, the state chairman of the Kwankwasiyya movement, John Ndiche, thanked the former governor for coming to see them despite his tight schedules. He assured him that the state would support his ambition and prayed that God should grant him victory.

During the visit, Kwankwaso visited the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Alex Onyido, who gave him a royal blessing.
