Sacked FBI director Says: Trump morally unfit to rule
Former FBI director James Comey who was fired by President Donald Trump in May last year has blasted his former boss saying the incumbent American leader is dangerous and “morally unfit” to rule.
Comey who made the comments during an interview with ABC News said Trump who may be open to blackmail by Russia is doing “tremendous damage” to institutional and cultural norms of the USA.
Comey said in the exclusive interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, that it is “possible, but I don’t know” whether Russia has evidence to back up the allegations about Trump’s Moscow trip.
“A person … who talks about and treats women like they’re pieces of meat, who lies constantly about matters big and small and insists the American people believe it, that person’s not fit to be president of the United States, on moral grounds. And that’s not a policy statement,” Comey said.
“He is morally unfit to be president,” he added.
Comey has a tell-all book, “A Higher Loyalty,” due out on Tuesday.
In a related development, Trump is now less likely to appear before special counsel Robert Mueller to answer questions over Russia’s influence in the last presidential elections after the raiding of his lawyer’s office, sources familiar with the matter say.
The raid carried out by the FBI on the New York office of Trump’s lawyer identified as Michael Cohen was described by the United States President as ‘disgraceful’.
According to US media, documents seized in the raid included those regarding a $130,000 payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels less than two weeks before the 2016 presidential elections.
