CAFCC group stage spot excites Enyimba goalkeeper
Following their qualification for the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup, Enyimba goalkeeper Fatau Dauda says his side are happy to make it past South Africa’s Bidvest Wits.
The Peoples Elephant were held to a goalless draw in the second leg of their play-off tie with Bidvest on Wednesday, but advanced on the away goal rule having picked a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Johannesburg.
Ghanaian shot-stopper, Dauda, who kept a clean sheet at home, admitted it was a tough game but happy the two-time continental champions advanced despite all odds.
“They (Bidvest Wits) made it tough for us but we are happy we are in the group stages now,” Dauda told Complete Sports.
“They had a couple chances too and we could have won it in the end but unfortunately Austin couldn’t score the penalty.
“We were a bit apprehensive at a point in the game and we are all happy we made it in the end.”
Commenting on the possibility of having to face other big African teams in the group stage, dauda said: “You don’t win a big competition without playing the big sides so we are ready for any team.”
The draw for the group stages will take place at CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.
