NNPC unveils 254 firms bidding for Nigeria’s oil lifting contract

No less than 254 companies bidding for Nigeria’s crude oil purchase and lifting contract for the period 2018/2019 were on Tuesday unveiled by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The names of the companies made up of indigenous and international oil companies were unveiled at a public opening of the bids at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.

There was an increase of 30 bidders from last year’s 224 companies that indicated interests.

NNPC’S Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, in his speech at the event noted that the public opening of the bids was in conformity with the transparency and accountability agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari in the oil and gas industry.

According to Baru, in about four weeks the evaluation of the bids must have been concluded with necessary approvals secured, following which the winners would be announced by the NNPC.

He said, “I assure all bidders of fair and just treatment while cautioning them not to patronize fraudsters.”

The NNPC GMD said that the bid was the third since the inception of the current government.

Winners will base on agreement with the NNPC be involved in the purchasing and lifting of thousands of barrels of Nigerian crude on daily basis.
