Ex-Gov Lamido taken to Dutse for trial
The Nigerian Police, Kano Command, has transported the immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, to Dutse his state capital for trial over alleged inciting comments.
Nigeria police zone 1, Kano State had on Saturday arrested the former governor after the Jigawa State government petitioned against him to the police for making utterances it said was capable of causing mayhem in the state during the coming local government elections slated for July 1.
Lamido, was governor under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for eight years in the state, was reportedly escorted to Dutse to be tried this Tuesday by heavily armed policemen.
Recall that his houses in Kano and Jigawa states were raided by the police following the allegation.
The security operatives transporting Lamido to his state capital where he will be formally arraigned, were said to have left Kano as early as 5.30am.
His transportation to Dutse for arraignment was confirmed by Zone 1 Police Public Relation officer, Sambo Dasuki.
Meanwhile, the chief press secretary to Lamido, Alhaji Umar Kyari, said that Lamido is being persecuted for his interest to contest the 2019 presidential election.
According to him, “it is rather too late for anyone to stop Lamido from achieving his political ambition come 2019 since the people have already seen that he has what it takes to rule Nigeria and lift it out of the woods.”
