DEFECTION: Ex-gov Chime is a political novice –Ekweremadu
For daring to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State’s former Governor Sullivan Chime has been branded a political novice by the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu.
The deputy Senate president made the comment when Udi Consultative Forum, visited the Enugu State Governor’s Lodge to reject Chime’s move to the APC.
Udi people, who are kinsmen to Chime, at the visit, not only rejected him and his move but also pledged their loyalty to Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Ekweremadu, and all PDP elected politicians in the area.
Chime had on Saturday formally joined APC branding PDP, a party under which platform he was governor for eight year as dead and cremated.
But his Udi people, who gathered at the occasion, said he was on his own.
“The problem is that our former governor (Chime) does not have sufficient experience in politics.
“If you watch what happened in Udi on Saturday (rally held to welcome Chime to APC), no APC senator came, no APC member of the House of Representatives was there. The only governor that came there from Sokoto State (Aminu Tambuwal) was only passing by,” Ekweremadu said.
Political pundits are of the opinion that Chime, who happened to come from Enugu West Senatorial District as Ekweremadu, may likely want to give a short at unseating the deputy Senate president using the APC platform in 2019.
Although, Chime had said he was not interested to run for any political position but that his defection to APC was to be a voice for his supporters.
However, Ekweremadu addressing Chime’s kinsmen told them that two other former governors in the state, Chief Jim Nwobodo and Dr. Chimaraoke Nnamani, who like Chime abandoned the PDP, are yet to recover from the consequences of their actions.
