CCT: Saraki to file no-case submission as FG closes case

Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday said he was going to file a no-case submission against the Federal Government in his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Abuja, over alleged false asset declaration.
He stated this following the Federal Government closed its case against him after its last witness testified in the matter.
The lead prosecuting counsel to government, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), had after its fourth prosecution witness, an official of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Ilorin branch, Bayo Dauda testified before the CCT, announced that the prosecution has close its case.
However in his response, Mr. Paul Erokoro (SAN), counsel to Saraki, instead of opening defence, said the defence would file a no-case submission, which is tantamount to saying that the prosecution with its tendered documentary evidence and testimony of its witnesses failed to prove any of the 18 counts leveled against the defendant.
In his submission on the matter, the CCT chairman, Danladi Umar, held that the defence should within one week file its written address on no-case submission and that the prosecution will also respond within one week.
He therefore fixed June 8 for the adoption of the addresses.
