Sagay accuses Saraki, Dogara of undermining anti-graft war

The positions of National Assembly leaders, Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Reps Speaker Yakubu Dogara, on the fight against corruption have been faulted by Itse Sagay (SAN), chairman Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC).
Saraki and Dogara had in separate speeches during the lunching of “Antidotes for Corruption: The Nigerian Story,” written by Senator Dino Melaye, criticised the method of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in fighting corruption.
While Saraki described what the EFCC is currently doing as showmanship and said that Nigeria is far from the standard of fighting crime, Dogara said that only strong institutions could ensure a successful anti-graft war.
But Sagay, unhappy with the positions of the National Assembly leaders accused them of undermining the anti-corruption war.
He contended that the fight is not showmanship, but a tough struggle against the dark satanic forces that threaten to utterly destroy the country’s economy.
These forces Sagay said are very powerful and pose very tough struggle for the anti-graft agencies.
He however assured that the war will continue and that the agencies fighting the battle will get better and better with time.
The book which was launched on Monday in Abuja, had former First Lady Patience Jonathan as a special guest. Also at the book launch were former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Anyim Pius Anyim; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Bello Mohammed and Minister of Labour Senator Chris Ngige, among others.
