Why Gani Adams was picked as new Aare Ona Kakanfo –Alaafin of Oyo

Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo has revealed the reason behind choosing Gani Adams, the National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.

The Alaafin who said that a letter of appointment had been issued to Adams during his (monarch’s) 79th birthday celebration, revealed in a statement that the OPC warlord was chosen after wide consultations and considerations.

Oba Adeyemi added that Adams emerged after careful, painstaking scrutiny of credentials and preference of holistic suitability of candidate to avoid putting a square peg in a round hole.

“He is equipped by God with the vitality of youth and the agility of a long distance runner, unblemished patriotism, and the wisdom of Solomon. His antecedents in the promotion of Yoruba culture are unquestionable, and he has a clear vision where the nation should be in the cultural reawakening both at home and overseas,” the Alaafin’s statement read in part.

The late MKO Abiola, who died in the detention camp of the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, in 1998 was the last man to hold the position of Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has joined other eminent citizens in the country to congratulate the Chief Adams over his appointment as the new Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.

The state government in a statement described his appointment as a well-deserved one, saying his appointment as the Generalisimo of Yorubaland should serve as a tonic for other Yorubas, who desire to uphold the core values of the race.
