ARGENTINA FRIENDLY: Okocha commends NFF, wishes for more top friendlies
Former Nigeria skipper, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for setting up a high-profile international friendly between the Super Eagles and two-time World Cup winners, Argentina.
The game which is scheduled to hold next month is the first on the line as the Eagles are expected to play more international games in preparation for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Okocha, who represented Nigeria in 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Cups, posited that playing teams like Argentina would further help improve the team ahead of the tournament.
“NFF deserve lots of commendation for organising a friendly match with a top side like Argentina,” Okocha told Complete Sports.
“I believe it is a sign of great things to come as we prepare for the World Cup.
“It won’t be a bad idea if the NFF can get more of these friendly matches for the team because it will expose the areas where we need to improve upon.
“We have a young side and playing against Argentina will help prepare them for the big stage in Russia next year,” he added.
The Eagles will play away to Algeria in a final World Cup qualifying tie on November 10 before traveling to Russia to engage Argentina four days later in Krasnodar.
