Evans now to stand murder trial in amended charges
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, has been charged with murder following the amendment of earlier charges filed against him.
The new charge was filed against him before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos High Court in Igbosere.
The judge had on October 23 adjourned the arraignment and hearing to Friday (today), being October 27.
Evans is being tried alonside five others over alleged murder, kidnap of Sylvanius Ahanonu Hafiia, and attempted kidnap of the Chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors, Vincent.
Justice Taiwo had adjourned the case following an application by Evans’ counsel, Olukoya Ogungbeje.
Lagos State Government had on Thursday, October 19, amended the charges it filed against the alleged kidnapper alongside five others before a High Court in Lagos State.
Subsequently, Evans who had on August 30 pleaded guilty to earlier charges against him, had then made a u-turn and entered a `not guilty’ plea.
Following the the amendment, which relates only to the punishment section for the second charge which was changed from Section 271 (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State to Section 2(1) of the Kidnap Prohibition Law of the Laws of Lagos 2017, Evans was this Friday charged with murder.
