WCQ: Algeria coach Madjer targets ‘important win’ over Super Eagles
Algeria coach, Rabah Madjer has spoken of how important it is for his team to win their final 2018 World Cup qualifying game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The result of the game will however have no impact whatsoever on who represents the group in Russia as the Eagles already picked the ticket, having clinched an unassailable 13 points ahead of Zambia on 7, Cameroon on 6 and Algeria on 1.
But the coach believes a victory will boost the confidence of his new team ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“If we start with a win over Nigeria, it will help the confidence qualifying for CAN 2019. I am very proud to have been chosen and to feel this confidence around me”, said Madjer, who took charge of the team earlier this month.
“Yes, I am attacked by journalists, by people on social networks. But I can assure you that I feel a lot of confidence from a majority of the public. I see it when I go out on the street.
“But we know that I will be judged on the results. And so this match against Nigeria is very important”, he added.
Algeria are joint leaders in Group D of the 2019 Nations Cup qualifiers with Benin Republic, while Gambia and Togo, without a point after the first round of matches, occupy third and fourth spots respectively.
The Fennecs will host the Eagles on November 10th to end the Russia 2018 qualifying campaign.
