Sand Eagles crash out of Beach Soccer W’Cup
After losing 12-6 to Italy and winning 5-4 over Mexico, Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles lost 2-1 to Iran on penalties after full time ended 4-4 on Monday night.
The team has thus crashed out of the on-going 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas.
Iran showed why they are Asian champions and also ranked number five in beach soccer in the World when Nigeria stopper Danjuma Paul went down quick to stop Mohammad Ahmadzadeh’s shot just three seconds into the matc
Ahmadzadeh scored a brace for the Iran side as well as Mohammad Mokhtari, but goals from Ibenegbu, Victor Tale, Emmanuel Ohwoferia and Godspower Igudia for Nigeria.
The extra time produced no goals as the match went into spot kicks.
Dami Paul saved Hassan Abdollahi’s opening spot kick but Victor Tale and Suleiman Ogodo both missed their spot kicks as Nigeria failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Iran reached the last eight of the competition as well as group winners, Italy,who thumped Mexico 8-1.
