WAFU Cup: Eagles make semifinals with win over Ghana
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have advanced to the last four of the ongoing 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations after defeating Ghana 2-0 on Monday.
The Eagles needed a win over the Black Stars in their last Group A game in Cape Coast in order to qualify for the semi-finals, having picked up draws in their first two matches.
Two second-half goals from Anthony Okpotu and Peter Eneji secured the Nigerian men their first win in the group stage of the tournament.
Okpotu put Nigeria ahead on 52 minutes before Eneji, who was voted the Most Valuable Player of the game, doubled the lead just three minutes after.
With the win, the home-based Eagles finished second in Group A, five points behind Ghana, who had already qualified with six points.
