FG okays N80bn for roads, bridges in Sokoto, Enugu, Oyo, 9 others

N8billion have been approved by the Federal Executive Council for the construction of roads and bridges across 12 states of the federation and the Federal Capital territory (FCT).
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, made this known to State House correspondents when he briefed them after FEC meeting on Wednesday presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The states to benefit from the project are Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, Osun, Kwara, Kano, Oyo, Enugu and Kaduna States.
Fashola also revealed that the sum of N150.8million was approved for the engineering and consultancy design contract for two access roads to link Asaba, Delta State and Onitsha, Anambra State to the Second Niger Bridge.
He added, “Subsequent to the award of further works of the Second Niger Bridge we have started work now by this approval on the design of the link road that will connect the two states to the bridge.
“The design is expected to be completed in six months and we will start procurement and as the bridge advances, we can then connect the two states.”
He further said that the extension of consultancy and project management of Katsina Wind Energy Farm Project got approval too.
He explained that the project was awarded in 2010 and should have been completed in 2013, but that “the expatriate who were implementing it were kidnapped and when he was eventually rescued he never came back and that delayed the project. But we have revived the project, a new contracting team is back on site.”
Also approved by FEC, is the power sector recovery programme.
“It’s a programme that comprises many policy actions, operational and financial interventions that needs to be carried out by government to improve transparency, service delivery, performance of DISCOS, Transmissions companies, the entire value change in order to create more viable power sector that is private sector driven,” he said.
FEC also approved $1.79bn for the award of contract for Phase II of the Abuja Mass Transit Lot 1B (26.77km).
