KADUNA: Buhari, IGP flex muscles after 45 villagers are mauled down by bandits
President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris have again promised to flood an area of the country with security operatives following the killings of scores of Nigerians.
Both men in their separate capacities made the promise while reacting to the killing on Sunday of about 45 villagers mostly children and the razing of houses at Gwaska Village in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State by bandits.
It is not the first time Buhari, or the police authorities have promised to deploy security personnel to a part of the country, following incessant killings in many parts of the country, especially the middle belt and northern regions.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai while reacting to the incident, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, El-Rufai said a battalion of the Nigerian Army would be permanently deployed in the area to check the killings.
According to him, “The engagements between the state and the Federal Government have yielded results. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a permanent battalion of the Nigerian Army in the Birnin Gwari general area.
“The new security arrangements also involve Policing. The Inspector General of Police has already announced the creation of the Birnin Gwari Police Area Command and two new Divisional Police Headquarters”, he said.
Reports say the bandits invaded Gwaska Village via Zamfara State in their hundreds, as usual riding on motorcycles shooting sporadically and killing anybody in sight.
A witness said; “The bandits, after sacking the entire village of about 3,000 people, razed their houses.”
The attack was confirmed by Kaduna State Police commissioner, Austin Iwar, who said 45 villagers were killed by bandits who stormed the village.
Iwar also added that the police had deployed over 150 police operatives in the area.
