Anti-Trump protests over Jerusalem decision spreads from Beirut to Rabat
The violent protests and demonstrating against the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the new capital of Israel has spread from Beirut in Lebanon to the Moroccan capital of Rabat.
Reports say tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Rabat to denounce the controversial move filling central avenues and squares in a number of major spots in the city.
Most of them were seen waving the flag of Palestine and shouting slogans to express their solidarity with the Palestinians, who see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
Yesterday, the American embassy in Beirut was under siege after angry Palestinian protesters set a U.S flag on fire near the embassy in Awkar north of the Lebanese capital.
In a related development, Trump’s decision has been condemned by Arab foreign ministers on Sunday who have all demanded that the decision be rescinded.
The ministers described the move as a “grave” development that puts Washington on the same side as “occupation” and the violation of international law.
