Gov Akeredolu ushered in by dare devil robbers, 5 killed in raid on Skye Bank

Less than a month after his swearing in as governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu is faced with his first major security challenge.

He was welcomed to office by a group of dare devil robbers who killed no less than five people during an attack on a branch of Skye Bank in the state.

The robbers struck in Ogbagi Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State robbing the bank and killing five victims including a policeman and a blind septuagenarian during the attack.

According to an eyewitness, the robbers who blew open the main entrance of the bank and an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, with dynamite, carted away unspecified sums of monies.

They reportedly shot sporadically killing their victims including two security guards attached to the bank located at Uko quarters in the agrarian town.

Femi Joseph, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officers who confirmed the incident informed that the police is on the trail of the robbers.

He also informed that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Mesical Centre, Owo.

A police sources said the robbers numbering up to 15 who came in commando style on motorbikes and operated without hindrance for about 45-minutes escaped through Omuo-Ekiti Road after the operation.

According to him, men of the Nigerian Army arrived the scene of the robbery, but by then the robbers had made their escape.

The police source said the causulaties could have been more if it were a market day as the bank that was attacked is opposite a main market.
